Myself
with other selves
Nine self-portraits, and none of them of one person. This series began with a simple suspicion: a self is never drawn alone. The people who stay near us leave their pressure on the page — a mother’s patience, a father’s stubborn line, a grandmother’s counted textures, a sister’s mirrored gestures, a brother’s restless edges. Each drawing is a double portrait: it is me, and it is someone who has settled into me. Alongside the family live quieter companions — the dreamer, the one who savours, the one who loves openly, and a stranger: the self I have not met yet. “Someone”, here, points both outward and inward. Pencil felt like the only honest medium for this — layered, erasable, keeping every correction as a faint scar, the way identity keeps its own revisions. The list is not finished; selves keep arriving.
